Creamy Marry Me Chicken

Marry me chicken is the ultimate one-pan dinner for when you want something cozy and impressive. You get golden seared chicken simmered in a creamy garlic parmesan sauce, with sun-dried tomatoes for that sweet-tangy bite. It tastes like a restaurant meal, but it’s easy enough for a weeknight.

It tastes rich, a little tangy, and slightly herby. This chicken recipe is so good that if you made it for your beloved, they would marry you. Just kidding, Contrary to popular belief, the name is actually because the original creator of the recipe got so many compliments on how well the ingredients blend or marry together, and hence the name.

Nevertheless, make this when you want to impress but don’t want to be on your feet the whole day. This marinated chicken feels like a date-night meal, but it’s simple. Besides, it’s a one-pan dinner, so you don’t have to worry about cleaning up after.

How to make Creamy Marry Me Chicken

  • 3 (250g-300g Each) Large Chicken Breast ( Butterflied & Halved)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon chicken bullion base
  • 4 tablespoons fresh basil
  • 1/2 cup fresh Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon unsalted butter
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon slap your mama seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 4 ounces sun-dried tomatoes
  • 1/2 small onion, chopped.
  • 3 tablespoons of oil from the sun-dried tomatoes

1. Start by slicing and butterfly the chicken breast right in the middle.

2. Next, drizzle some olive oil and the chicken rub on the chicken

3. Flip the chicken over drizzle some more olive oil on the other side and rub in the chicken rub and set the chicken aside.

4. Onto a flat plate, add half a cup of the the flour.

5. Grab each piece of chicken and dip into the flour for a  lightly coating, repeat until all chicken pieces are well coated and set aside.

6. Grab a cast iron pan or a heavy bottom skillet on medium heat and add the oil from the can of sun dried tomatoes. Once the  cast iron is nice and hot,  place the chicken in there to cook the chicken. It will take about 3 to 4 minutes per side, because this is chicken breast you don’t want to overcook.

8. Flip the chicken over to ensure all sides are evenly cooked. Repeat until all chicken pieces have been cooked.

9. After, on the same Skillet, add about 1 tbsp of butter.

10. Once the butter is melted, add in the onions.

10. Cooked the onions until translucent for about 1 minute and then put in the garlic. Garlic burns very fast, so we’re going to cook it for about 30 minutes as we stir.

11. Next, add in the sundried tomatoes, and stir. Allow the ingredients to simmer for about 30 seconds to a minute to infuse that sundried tomato flavor.

12. Add in the heavy cream and the chicken broth and stir to combine. Reduce the heat to simmer, with heavy cream, too much heat can ruin your dish. Do not rush the process.

13. Next comes the seasoning starting with pepper flakes for a little kick , some Italian seasoning, salt and pepper to your liking. Grate in some lemon zest. I’m also using some chicken bouillon this is going to add some nice flavor chicken flavor.

14. Add in the parmesan and give it a good stir.

15. Finally, add in the chicken pieces and mix it all together.

16. Allow it to simmer and come together for about 3 to 5 minutes or until your sauce starts to thicken a little bit.

17. Add ins some fresh basil for more flavor.

18. Once the sauce has thicken to your liking, remove from the stovetop and allow it to cool.

19. Serve and enjoy

Important Recipe Notes

  • You can make marry me chicken with breasts or thighs. Use breasts if you want to go leaner and thighs if you want extra tenderness without having to worry about drying out.

  • If using chicken breasts slice them into cutlets for even cooking and extra juicy results.

  • Sear your chicken until golden as browning adds most of the flavor.

  • Deglaze the pan after browning the chicken. Scrape up browned bits to make the sauce taste rich.

  • Once heavy cream is added, simmer gently , never a hard boil.

  • Add parmesan gradually so it melts smoother and stays silky.

  • Taste before adding any additional salt as Parmesan and sun-dried tomatoes add salt fast.

  • A great marry me chicken sauce should look glossy and feel silky. It coats the back of a spoon perfectly.

  • Finish the sauce with herbs or lemon to balance the the sauce and keep it from tasting heavy.
